Equity, Diversity and Inclusion

The Northland Community Choir Board of Directors adopted an Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Policy in 2022. This policy is a living document and will be evaluated annually by the Board of Directors to measure progress.

We consider diversity, equity and inclusion to be drivers of institutional excellence. We seek out diversity of participation, thought and action. It is our aim, therefore, that our board, staff, partners and key stakeholders reflect and embrace these core values and remove systemic barriers for professionals in the field.

We are committed to perpetuating the universal choral tradition by actively seeking and welcoming diverse singers, conductors, composers and arts administrators to present the music of all traditions to audiences of all traditions, at the highest possible level of performance. As an increasingly diverse organization, we seek to celebrate the world of music, wherever created in whatever tradition. To that end, the Northland Community Choir commits to championing policies and practices of diversity, equity and inclusion which result in just, equitable and inclusive access to our programming and our organization.

We define cultural equity as the values, policies, and practices that ensure that all people—including but not limited to those who have been historically underrepresented based on race/ethnicity, age, disability, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, socioeconomic status, geography, citizenship status, or religion—are represented in our audiences; in the artists we engage and commission; in all levels of the administrative and production staff; vendors and contractors we select; and the Board of Directors that governs the organization in a way that is fair and inclusive.

Building one of the world’s leading choral organization requires a diverse team of many individuals with the best minds, the most comprehensive expertise, the broadest knowledge, the strongest talent and the greatest integrity. We believe that by creating an environment where diversity and inclusion are welcomed, we will nurture ideas and perspectives that could not be fostered otherwise.
